Adult Faith Formation Opportunities

Adult Faith Formation Opportunities

In addition to the apostolates, St. Thomas Aquinas offers a variety of spiritual growth opportunities. We encourage signing up so our faith-filled leaders can stay connected to those interested. This is a wonderful way to grow spiritually with other parishioners and build community.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)

OCIA, which stands for Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (formerly known as RCIA), is the process by which interested adults, 18 and older, undertake a journey of conversion leading to initiation into the Catholic Church at Easter. As different people pursue the possibility of becoming Catholic through the OCIA process, they fall into categories as follows:

Inquirer:
An inquirer is anyone who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith, including those who wish to explore the possibility of entering the Catholic Church but are uncertain about making any decision.
Catechumen:
A catechumen is an unbaptized person who has decided to possibly enter the Catholic Church.
Candidate:
A candidate is a baptized Christian who has decided to possibly enter the Catholic Church. A candidate can also be a baptized Catholic who has never received First Communion or religious instruction.

OCIA classes are held on Thursday evenings beginning each September at 6:30 pm in Allen Hall. To register, click HERE

Parishioners (known as Catechists) can sponsor participants. This role is considered stewardship. It is a wonderful way to get involved with our parish and connect deeply with our faith.

STA Book Club

The parish book club is sponsored by the Parish Library Apostolate and hosts one or two book studies every year. The club meets twice for each book, one time before participants begin a book and one other time approximately six weeks later for fellowship and discussion. Exploring a book together and
sharing insights we gain with others enriches our lives and helps us integrate those insights into our daily lives. Upcoming studies will be announced. Please join us.

STA Scholars

St. Thomas Aquinas Scholars is an academically based faith formation opportunity. Participants read the assigned book and meet weekly to engage in deep discussions led by those with theological knowledge and training. Members can expect to be strengthened in their faith through shared thoughts and insights. Leaders choose one book to study in the Fall and another in the Spring. To register for the upcoming session, click HERE.

Walking with Purpose (Women Only)

The heart of Walking with Purpose is our parish-based Bible study program for adult women. Run by parish lay women volunteers, approved by our parish pastor, and supported by Walking with Purpose national staff, the parish program welcomes all women regardless of faith background, age, or marital status. It incorporates at-home Scripture study and weekly small group discussions on relevant study material. Sessions are offered in the Fall and Spring on Monday evenings and Thursday afternoons. Learn more.
