Morning
: 7:15 – 7:45 a.m.

*Afternoon Latchkey will be closed on early dismissal days.

Rates:
Morning Latchkey: $2.50/hour (rounded to the minute)
Afternoon Latchkey:

  • $3.25 per day minimum charge (includes 1st 60 minutes and snack)
  • $2.50/hour charge after 1st 60 minutes (rounded to the minute)

Late Pick-up Fee: $1.00 per child per minute after 5:30 p.m.

 

 

The school provides latchkey services in a safe, educational, and activity-based environment for any student who needs supervision before and/or after school.

Enrollment: Enrollment must be completed before your student attends either morning or afternoon Latchkey. There is a $10.00 enrollment fee per family, per year. The enrollment form, fee, and check for prepayment of the first month must be returned before the first day of attendance. Submit forms and payments to the School Office or Latchkey Supervisor. 

Morning latchkey:  Morning latchkey begins at 7:15 a.m. Students are to be dropped off at the plaza doors and check-in with the supervisor. This is a quiet time for students to read, draw, play cards or do homework. Snacks are not provided, but students are allowed to bring their breakfast. Older students will be dismissed to their classroom at 7:40 after morning prayer. All day preschool students will be escorted to their classroom at 7:45 a.m.

Afternoon latchkey:  Students should arrive to the cafeteria by 3:40 p.m. and check-in with the supervisor. Students will receive a snack and have play time outside (weather permitting), and study time. At 3:45 p.m. students who wish to attend Homework Club, Game Club/Youth Group (middle school only) may be granted permission to attend. Homework Club is supervised by an adult. Afternoon latchkey ends at 5:30 p.m. Parents or other authorized persons must wait in the circle drive or other authorized area to pick up student(s).

STUDENT(S) MUST BE PICKED UP BY 5:30 P.M. - Excessive late pick-up is unacceptable. 

  • 3rd late pick-up: must pick student up by 5:00pm the remainder of the year
  • 4th late pick-up: must pick student up by 4:30pm the remainder of the year.
  • 5th late pick-up: latchkey privileges will be revoked for the remainder of the year.

Severe weather: In the event of severe weather, such as a tornado threat, students will be moved to a safe shelter.

Accidents: We make every attempt to keep the latchkey environment safe, but accidents may happen. Our school nurse is off duty at 4:00 p.m. If a child is injured during latchkey hours, their injury will be assessed by an adult and proper first aid will be rendered. Parents will be informed of the injury when they pick up their student. In the event of a serious injury, 911 may be called. If your child needs to be transported to a hospital, one of our adults will accompany your child, and you will be notified immediately.

 Rules and policies regarding discipline will be the same as in the school handbook. All behavior problems will be dealt with by the supervisor and discussed with the parent at pick-up time. Students are expected to abide by the STA Honor Code. A student may be removed from Latchkey if disruptive behavior is persistent.

LATCHKEY CODE OF CONDUCT

Latchkey wishes to maintain a favorable climate for fun activities and safe environment. One in which students, parents, and administrators can work together productively and with dignity. Our standard of behavior during Latchkey is based on one simple rule: treat others as you would like them to treat you. Parents, please help in stressing this at home with our students will reinforce our efforts and make them much more effective.

Students are expected to follow rules per the STA handbook. The code of conduct applies to students anytime they are on the property or inside the school building.

BEHAVIORS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Each person shall act courteously and show respect to all
  2. Each person shall respect school property and the personal property of others
  3. Fighting and threatening physical behavior or harassment are forbidden
  4. Student will use appropriate language
LATCHKEY RECESS
CAFETERIA RECESS EXPECTATIONS
  • Inside voice
  • Respect school/latchkey property; games, art supplies, furniture, and other property
  • Remain seated
  • Eat snack and dispose of trash before lining up for recess
PLAYGROUND RECESS EXPECTATIONS
  • Avoid rough play (play fighting, wrestling, pushing, kicking, etc.) or play that mimics violence (sword fighting, gun fights, etc.).
  • Leave personal belongings, such as toys, electronics, hard balls, bats, etc., at home.
  • Speak kindly to others
  • Finish all food before going out to the playground
  • Play in your assigned zone
  • Take turns with equipment
  • Stop play and line up quickly and quietly to return to the cafeteria at the end of recess.
  • Respond immediately, with respect and courtesy, to instructions from adults in charge.
MODIFICATION OF INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR

Whenever possible, a positive approach will be utilized. The following range of consequences may be used:

  • Minor offense will be recorded, but can usually be addressed during latchkey with a time out; removal from activity, verbal reprimand, etc.
  • Major or repeated offenses will be recorded and addressed using the following procedure:
    • First write up will require parent and student signature for student to return to latchkey. Student will be required to miss one day of latchkey.
    • Second write up will require signatures and could result in suspended latchkey for up to 1 week.
    • Third write up will require signatures and could result in suspended latchkey for 2 weeks and meeting with school administration.
    • Fourth write up will result in automatic dismissal from the latchkey program for the remainder of the school year.
