In August 1959, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church opened its Parish School under the direction of Rev. Patrick J. Hollaran, S.J., and the Sisters of Charity, serving 317 students in grades Kindergarten through 8. Over the next few decades, the school experienced steady growth. By 1964, a new north wing was added to the school to accommodate the increasing number of students.

In 1984, the cornerstone for a new church building was laid, allowing the school to expand into the old parish quarters. Then, in the late 1980s, under the leadership of Rev. Sean J. O’Shea, the school and church were modernized, with the two buildings connected by the “cloister,” fulfilling his dream to provide a Catholic education for every child eligible.

As enrollment continued to rise, expansion became a priority in the mid to late 1990s. By 1998, a new addition was completed, featuring new classrooms, a cafeteria/auditorium, and a state-of-the-art gym/parish activity center.

Since 2006, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School has been under the leadership of Rev. Matthew C. McGinness. Together with Principal Mary Sweet, technology became a key focus for strategic enhancement, and several improvements were made to the school facilities, including the remodeling of the kitchen in 2013.

In 2020, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School received the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award, recognizing its commitment to academic excellence and overall achievement.

Under the leadership of Rev. Matthew C. McGinness and Principal Stephanie Warren, significant upgrades have been made to the school’s campus. In 2024, a brand-new playground was installed, featuring updated equipment, new flooring, a redesigned layout, and a modern basketball court. The school also completed the installation of new lockers in the middle school hallway and remodeled four bathrooms to better serve the students’ needs. In addition, security measures were enhanced with the installation of riot glass on all doors, screens on preschool windows, and panic buttons for added protection.

These ongoing improvements reflect the school’s commitment to providing a safe, modern, and academically rigorous environment for students, ensuring that St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School remains a beacon of faith and excellence in the community.
